Detoxifying the body for long term health

We live in a world where we cannot avoid toxins and pollution. It is in the food we eat, the packaging of the food we buy, the water and the air around us. Often we get a build up of toxins within the physical body which can have an impact on immunity, how we struggle to release excess weight, hormonal issues, fatigue and just to maintain good overall health and prevention of illness.

If we are in good health our body can process and eliminate most of the toxins around us, but over time the body can become overloaded and may struggle to do this work efficiently for us.

Key organs and systems within the body for  detoxification include the gastrointestinal system, lymphatic system, kidneys, bladder, lungs and the skin.

Toxins can overload the detoxification organs and when we start to get  congestion in the lymphatic system , this is when we get thickened lymph which may cause pain and discomfort as sacks of fluid accumulates in the nodes without being emptied into the blood for removal from the body. This congestion can then lead to other blocks in the liver and then into the intestines which may cause  constipation along with liver dysfunction.

Unable to properly remove the toxins causes many health problems such as:
Poor digestion

Weight gain or unable to shift weight easily

Constipation

Bloating

Allergies or food sensitivities

Re-occuring tonsilits

Sinusitis

Low immunity

Skin problems (such as eczema, acne, hives, itching and rashes)

Diabetes

Headaches

Mineral deficiency (key for weigh loss)

Hormonal imbalances
In order to start to  address these issues it is important that the body is balanced through the the detoxification system as well as ALL other areas of the body . A balanced holistic approach with health and nutrition are key and balancing the systems through Clinical Reflexology or Kinesiology alongside a healthy nutritional support system to help you back into balance are vital for a long term healthy body.

How lack of sleep can impact on weight loss and hormonal imbalances.

We know that we are what we eat (and digest) and some of our earlier blogs give nutritional advice but i have been thinking a lot this week about how important sleep is and how lack of sleep can damage the hormonal system and also have an impact on a speedy weight loss.

Whilst a healthy diet is key in most weight loss it is also worth thinking about how much sleep you are getting,  as some of the contributing factors that link sleep with weight loss need to factor in the consideration of our hormonal system…..here’s how …..

*  your pituitary gland (which is the master hormonal system regulator and growth hormone)  works harder whilst you are sleeping. This can help you build muscle, regenerate cells and  help with balancing of the metabolism which leads to easier weight loss.

*A good nights  sleep at night helps you lower cortisol levels (which stops over stimulation of breaking protein down into glucose …….and  If you have too much glucose in your body, it will get stored as fat!)

* Too little sleep affects  levels of leptin (this curbs our appetite ) and raises levels of ghrelin ( increases our appetite) which can impact on weight loss.

* Sleep will also help us to process the stresses and strains of the waking hours which may also be causing adrenal fatigue which will also increase cortisol levels.

So whilst we may be burning the candle at both ends or simply not taking the time to consider the importance of training ourselves into enjoying a good 8 hours sleep a night there is a secondary gain to be had for a good nights kip….weight loss …..zzzzzzzz

Clinical Reflexology is also a great way to help maximise the efficiency of the hormonal system rebalancing that wonderful endocrine system.

Poor Liver Function and Weight-loss Secrets

Did you know that if your LIVER is not functioning correctly it can lead to WEIGHT GAIN, FATTY LIVER , DIABETES ETC

if you have a diet low in FIBRE then the liver will be unable to effectively remove cholesterol and toxins from the system which will lead to fatty deposits being distributed throughout the body ….in particular the fat will be stored around the middle leading to a gain of weight around the stomach, back and buttocks.

It is important that you eat foods high in fibre to allow the liver to function correctly and once you change your diet you will notice these stubborn deposits begin to disappear but it can take between 3 and 12 months, depending upon the amount of fat deposited in the liver, to remove the excess fat from the liver.
Eating whole grains, vegetables , fruits and cleansing the liver with good supplements such as milk thistle , licorice or artichoke can greatly benefit you. Artificial sweetener use , over indulgence in alcohol and frequent use of over the counter medicine will also have a negative affect on the liver.

Call me for a free confidential lifestyle analysis and advice on how we can address your liver balancing or weight management need through our therapies.

Balance your hormones through diet and Reflexology

Hormones affect mood, weight gain , bowel health, skin, energy levels, sleep, PCOS ….the list goes on…….

If we balance our hormones can do a lot to boost health.

The endocrine system is a complex system that affects the above, An Experienced Clinical Reflexologist can help you identify if this system is out of balance and work with a programme to maximise your bodies chance of optimum efficiency within this system.

Some nutritional tips which will also help you include :

~Leptin is a master hormone, and if it is out of balance no other hormones will balance well. The below advice will help with that but also you need to take in less fortified , processed and sugary food. Eat more whole grains and start the day on proteins and healthy fats.

~ Limit Caffeine intake as it can stress the endocrine system.

~ Sleep – If you aren’t getting enough sleep, your hormonal system will not be balanced.

~ Avoid fats such as vegetable oil, peanut oil, canola oil, soybean oil, margarine, shortening or other chemically altered fats. Evidence suggests that this can spur problems like endometriosis and PCOS. Choose fats like coconut oil, real butter, olive oil (don’t heat!) and eat lots of high Omega-3 fish

~Non strenuous exercise – If you have hormone imbalance, intense exercise will stress the body and actually prevent weight loss. Focus on relaxing exercises like Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Walking, Yoga and Swimming.

~ Avoid Toxins such as pesticides, plastics, household chemicals as much as possible as they can mimic hormones and disrupt the system. If you have hormone imbalance or are struggling to get pregnant, avoiding these toxins is key. Cook in glass or non-coated metal pans (no non-stick or teflon) and avoid heating or storing foods in plastic. Find organic produce and meat whenever possible and don’t use chemical pesticides or cleaners.

~Coconut Oil is amazing for hormone health. It provides the necessary building blocks for hormone production, can assist weight loss, reduce inflammation, and even has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

Clean 9 System cleanse and weight loss

FINAL STATS of my Clean9 weight loss success journal.
Posted on 30 May 2013 08:16
Hi All,

So on Tuesday i decided to cleanse my system ready for my holiday and so i am using the forever living clean 9 cleansing system for this.
I love forever living products (and do recommend and sell them to my clients along with natures sunshine) and the gel is probably one of the best things i can recommend to anyone.

Anyway i thought i would blog my progress, as i believe only in offering my clients products like this which are tried and tested. Personally i am doing this for a system clean i dont really have much weight to loose (a couple of lbs before my holiday will be good though) What i’m finding this far is that i’m going to loose weight whether i want to or not.

I have some before and after pictures from successful clients on the weight loss page if you want to see the successes.
Also if you contact me directly i will be able to offer you a discount off the RRP of this programme plus i am offering a free lifestyle analysis and nutritional support .

Day 1. – lost 1.6lbs
I know that the first 2 days are the hardest as this is the beginning of the phase and the body is adjusting. I have a lot of aloe gel through the day and a balanced protein shake. I expect to feel hungry but i’m very surprised that i am not at all.
I did waver and had some extra (soy) milk in the morning as i find it hard to take tablets on an empty stomach.
I distracted myself from meal times by doing other things. I feel good and not tired.

Day 2 – lost 2.0lbs (3.6lbs total)
Again today i really started to think about how we eat because someone offers us food or because it is ‘time’ to eat and not really because we are hungry.
Again i had a little extra soy milk for the first thing in the morning tablets, not hungry at all but i do feel a little more tired today . Slept like a log!

Day 3- lost 1.5lbs (5.1lbs total)
This morning i felt very tired, but today i have extra protein shakes and i also get 600 calories of meal so i know that the worst is over. I can’t believe how i do not feel hungry at all. I expected to be highly anticipating my meal and i struggled to eat the full meal.

Day 4- lost .4lbs (5.5lbs total)
What i am realising is how different this is – i have done body cleanses before as i like the Ayurvedic principle of rebalancing the organs to get them to work smarter but i have never lost weight like this – just water weight. I am now my ‘happy / ideal’ weight so i am personally going to try to increase the calories as i have another 5 days and do not want to loose much more.
The garcinia is the one that is melting old fat,
Also i realised as i ate my main meal for my evening meal this is probably better (for me) to eat earlier as i had energy and then did nothing with it, as a result i did not sleep too well. For my lifestyle that may need to be eaten before 4:00pm so i can burn it off.
Day 5- – Lost 0.5lbs (6lbs total)
Ok so i wanted a lie in this morning but seem to have a lot of energy which is not at all what i expected as i am eating so much less.
I ate earlier yesterday to try to counterbalance the nighttime energy and this worked as i slept well (just woke early!!) I over exceeded the calorie amount (on purpose ) as i don’t really want to loose too much weight as this is a cleanse for me.
What i am really noticing (or maybe imagining…either way i like it :O) ) is that my body looks more defined which to me is not water weight . As i mentioned yesterday the garcinia uses old fat stores by inhibiting the enzyme which converts carb into fat . It also contains also chromium which is a mineral which if we are deficient in we tend to crave sugary foods .As chromium deficiency causes fatigue and excess fat production this is probably also why i have so much energy!!!

Day 6 – 8 – Lost 1.0lbs (7lbs total)

Catching up with you on my cleanse tracking as the weekend has been busy and i had a few system errors on the blog.
So i feel cleansed, really full of energy and it really hasn’t felt like i have had to give up on much …..i have to admit though it has been the weekend and i have had a glass or 2 of red wine and also i had a couple of coffees….yikes….so i still feel great but i guess it could have been even better!!! I still lost some weight although i have eaten more than 600calories and had a ittle detour 1.0 lbs over the weekend.
Final weigh in tomorrow and again i have been up without my alarm every day.
.

Day 9 – Lost 0.3lbs (7lbs 3 total)

So the end is finally here, i have been surprised at how easy it has been after the first couple of days it really is not at all difficult. I lost 3inches from my waits so i am very happy with that, i also lost 1 inch from my upper arm and thigh!! So naw i feel so much better and i really think this is going to be a summer and winter must for me…i cannot recommend this with nutritional guidance enough!!!

I have some before and after pictures from successful clients on the weight loss page if you want to see the successes. Also if you contact me directly i will be able to offer you a £20 discount off the RRP of this programme plus i am offering a free lifestyle analysis and nutritional support if you need it through the programme .

Common weight loss myths and truths

Myth – Eating fat makes you fat
TRUTH –  food which is high  in omega 3 fatty acids and saturated fats are linked to lower rates of obesity and better overall health. Good fats help to build healthy cell membranes to utilise good hormonal  signals which  manage metabolism.
Diets rich in good fats (saturated and omega 3), anti-oxidants, electrolytes and trace minerals de-inflame the body and allow for proper insulin/leptin signaling resulting in weight loss, stable energy and disease prevention.
Myth – Low fat cereal ‘diets’ are a good way to drop a dress size.
TRUTH –  Many breakfast cereal are  simple carbs which is sugar. Starting the day on protein such as eggs or COMPLEX  carbs such as whole GRAIN bread with beans or porridge will be more helpful than starting on sugar  (which in turn will lead to insulin resistance which is going to make long term weigh loss harder)
Myth – Im always on the go, at the gym, i hardly eat i should be burning all my fat off.
TRUTH – Stress triggers something called progesterone which triggers our craving sensors.  A stressful lifestyle (this includes stressing the mind, excessive exercise, too much caffeine or diet drinks and lack of sleep )   will  stimulate cortisol production and adrenal fatigue  which can impact on effective weight loss.
Myth – Low fat foods / ”fat free” foods prevent weigh gain.
TRUTH –  fat free mainly means it has a higher sugar contant (which just turns to fat anyway). In addition to this all of the false sugars (saccharin, sucralose,  Acesulfame Potassium, maltose, dextrose, aspartame….brand names like  sweet n low, splenda etc etc ) ….whatever you want to call this gunk is just a false product which our body doesnt recognise and therefore it messes up our hormonal system (see above insulin resistance, thyroid function etc ) . This in turn means our system doesn’t know what is ‘real sugar and ‘ fake sugar’ it just ends up encapsulating what it registers as ‘ foreign matter’ in a layer of fat ….AKA CELLULITE!!
Myth –  Excessive exercise is better
Most people believe that running long distances and lifting light weights for many repetitions is good and that running 10K’s and marathons are healthy.
TRUTH –  long distance cardiovascular exercise increases cortisol secretions which inflame the body and damage joints & ligaments leading to injury/over-training and possible weight gain. Also cortisol (released from the adrenals) is what we release when we are stressed so we are stressing the body out.
High intensity, short time period training boosts growth hormone that allows the body to build muscle, burn fat and build a greater anti-oxidant reserve. Train 4-5 days a week for 10-20 minutes each session at a very high intensity.
Myth – I feel good so I must be healthy
TRUTH –  is that every cell is hit by over 10,000 free radicals every second. We never feel this. The heart rebuilds all 60 billion cells every 7 months. We never feel this. Between 10,000 and 100,000 cancer cells are building in our body every day. We never feel this. Eat as much organic, free range, grass fed meat and  non farmed fish produce as you can afford.  Eat food in its natural state. The more ingredients on the label the less healthy it is.
Myth – It doesn’t matter what i do i cannot loose weight. My metabolism is slower than everyone else’s.
TRUTH – Simple equation is what i eat  plus (+) or minus ( -)  what i use in energy (or metabolise)   will equal  (= )
a) weight loss
or
b) weight gain
or
c) weight stabilising
Portion control and removing ‘fake food’ from your diet is the key to both long term health and weight management.  I mentioned earlier about the hormonal system being out of balance which is just a case of ‘rebooting’ and once that has happened the above comes back into play. Most of us have gone off  the path of listening and understanding our bodies which is why my programmes are so effective as whether you have lost sight of portion control or need a ‘reboot’ we get you back on the path to health and wellbeing.
