Ecstasy
From hunger to nourishment
Before I knew you
I was full
but only of myself,
and others
just like me,
whose shrill laughter
rang as hollow
as my own.
We gathered like a coven
in dark smoky places,
a heavy beat
pulsing through flesh and bone
until, in trance,
we surrendered to the night.
The watchful eyes
of predators glistened,
senses sharpened,
ready for the kill.
The empty bellies
of hungry ghosts
slipped from the shadows,
baring their teeth,
seeking the thrill of the chase,
a fleeting taste
of pleasure.
We were all
begging crumbs
yet starving,
while Life played
the same note
over and over …..
insanity.
Now the bones of me
are vibrant and full,
juices overflowing,
dripping honey nectar
to be savoured slowly
with meaningful desire.
Each delicious bite,
each trembling mouthful,
drawn deep into the body
like sacred wine.
How sweet your feast
an endlessly giving banquet,
where hunger dissolves
into ecstasy.
