Hi Dear Ones,
Welcome back to our blog. I’m so grateful to have you here.
Have you ever noticed how quickly a reaction can rise?
One moment you’re fine…The next, something is said, something happens, and suddenly you feel flooded.
Words spill over , your body tightens. And afterwards that familiar sinking feeling ‘ I wish I’d handled that differently”.
What if I told you that the most powerful moment isn’t the reaction …..but the pause just before it?
The Space That Changes Everything
Between what happens and how we respond, there is always a moment of space.
It might be tiny. It might feel uncomfortable. But it is there.
And that pause is where awareness lives.
When we pause, we step out of automatic reaction and into conscious choice. We give the body and mind just enough time to settle before acting …. and that single moment makes such a profound difference.
Your Brain Is Always Learning
Modern neuroscience has shown us something incredibly hopeful:
That the brain is not fixed. Through neuroplasticity, the brain constantly rewires itself based on what we repeatedly do.
This means:
- Every time we pause instead of reacting, our brain wires itself for more control
- Every time we explode in anger, our brain wires itself for more chaos
This isn’t about judging ourselves it’s about understanding how change really happens.
The brain strengthens whatever pathways we use most. If we react without pause, those reactive patterns become stronger.
If we pause …. even briefly , we begin to build new pathways linked to calm, regulation, and clarity.
Why Pausing Feels Hard at First
Our nervous system is designed to protect us. When it senses threat (emotional or physical ) it moves fast.
That’s why reactions feel instant and powerful.
Pausing can feel unnatural at first because you’re interrupting an old pattern. But each pause teaches your nervous system something new:
I am safe enough to slow down.
Over time, this creates real changes not just emotionally, but physically and neurologically.
Pausing Is a Body Practice, Not Just a Mindset
Pausing isn’t about forcing calm or suppressing emotion.
It’s about allowing the body to soften before acting.
When you pause:
- The breath naturally slows
- The nervous system begins to settle
- The body receives a signal of safety
This is why even one conscious breath can shift a moment that might otherwise spiral.
A Gentle Pause Practice
Next time you feel triggered, try this:
- Stop and take one slow breath
- Feel your feet or place a hand on your body
- Quietly say to yourself: “I can pause.”
Nothing else is required. You are not trying to fix the feeling.
You are simply choosing not to add fuel to it.
Each pause is practice……
Each pause is progress…..
One pause at a time……
