Access Consciousness Bars

Access Bars Hinckley

Access Consciousness Bars® at Peace of Mind Health, Hinckley

There is a particular kind of mental noise that most people simply learn to live with. The relentless stream of thoughts, judgements, worries and internal commentary that runs almost continuously — assessing, planning, criticising, replaying, projecting. So constant that it has become the background of life rather than a disruption to it. So familiar that the absence of it is almost unimaginable.

What many people experience after their first Access Bars® session is exactly that absence. A quietness. A sense of space where the noise was. Not emptiness, but ease — a feeling, as one client described it, of having had a thousand browser tabs quietly closed.

Access Bars Clearing Points
Access Bars Clearing Points

At Peace of Mind Health in Hinckley, Access Bars® is offered as a deeply restorative, profoundly simple and surprisingly powerful energy process — one that works not through effort or analysis, but through the most gentle of physical touch, and the intelligence of the body’s own electromagnetic field.

What Access Bars® Is

Access Bars® is an energy healing technique developed by Gary Douglas, founder of Access Consciousness®, in the early 1990s. It involves light, stationary touch applied to 32 specific points on the head — points that, within the Access Consciousness framework, correspond to different areas of life, thought and experience: creativity, communication, awareness, control, ageing, money, relationships, body, sexuality, sadness, joy and more.

Each of these points is understood to hold the accumulated electromagnetic charge of every thought, feeling, belief, attitude, decision and judgement you have ever had in that area — across this lifetime and, within the framework of Access Consciousness, beyond it. When the points are gently held by a practitioner, the stored charge is said to begin releasing — like deleting files that have been taking up too much space, slowing the system down, limiting what can be received or created in that area of life.

The experience of this release is not dramatic. There is no pain, no deep pressure, no emotional confrontation. There is, for most people, simply a deepening sense of relaxation — sometimes profound, sometimes surprisingly rapid — as the nervous system settles and the mind begins to quiet.

What Is Happening in the Brain and Nervous System

Access Bars® has attracted the attention of researchers interested in its neurological effects, and while the body of independent research is still growing, the findings to date are genuinely interesting.

Dr Jeffrey Fannin, a neuroscientist specialising in brain mapping, measured the brainwave activity of participants before and after Access Bars® sessions using EEG. He found that the technique induced brainwave states comparable to those of experienced meditators — specifically, significant increases in theta and delta wave activity, and reductions in the high-frequency beta waves associated with stress, mental chatter and sympathetic nervous system activation. In some participants, these neurological shifts occurred within minutes of the session beginning.

Dr Terrie Hope, PhD, published research in the Energy Psychology Journal showing that a single 90-minute Access Bars® session reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression by up to 84.7%, with corresponding improvements in EEG coherence — the synchronisation of brain activity associated with calm, integrated mental functioning.

A 2025 study conducted by Dr Astrid Vester and biologist Mia DeLuca tracked biometric and cognitive data from 50 volunteers before and after a single Access Bars® session. The findings showed that 82% experienced a reduced respiratory rate — indicating a shift into deeper, more relaxed breathing — and 72% showed improved heart rate variability, one of the most trusted scientific markers of parasympathetic nervous system activation and genuine recovery from stress.

It is worth noting that much of the research into Access Bars® has been conducted or commissioned within the Access Consciousness community rather than by fully independent bodies, and independent replication remains limited. With that honest caveat acknowledged, the consistency of the findings across different researchers — reduced anxiety, improved sleep, brainwave shifts into meditative states, measurable nervous system regulation — points to a genuine physiological effect that warrants continued attention.

What researchers observe is consistent with what clients report: the nervous system calms. The brain shifts from its default beta state of stress and analysis into slower, more receptive, more restorative frequencies. The body begins to do what it does when it feels safe — and that, in itself, is therapeutic.

The Nervous System — Why This Matters

The autonomic nervous system — the body’s largely automatic system for managing stress and safety — sits at the heart of how Access Bars® appears to work. Most people in modern life spend the majority of their time in sympathetic nervous system dominance: the fight-or-flight mode designed for short-term threat but now running almost continuously in response to the demands, pressures and overstimulation of daily life.

When the sympathetic system is chronically active, cortisol remains elevated, sleep is disrupted, digestion is impaired, immune function is compromised, pain sensitivity increases and the brain’s capacity for creativity, clear thinking and emotional regulation is significantly reduced. This is not a mindset problem. It is a physiological state — and it cannot be resolved through thinking alone.

Access Bars® appears to activate the parasympathetic system — the body’s rest-and-restore mode — through a combination of the theta brainwave states it induces and the broader neurological settling that gentle, sustained head contact produces. When the parasympathetic system activates, cortisol drops, breathing deepens, heart rate slows, digestion eases and the conditions for genuine healing, deep sleep and emotional processing become available.

Many clients describe the experience as unlike anything else they have tried — not because it is intense or demanding, but because the quality of rest it produces is deeper and more complete than what most people access even in sleep.

What a Session Involves

You arrive and are welcomed into the calm treatment space at Peace of Mind Health in Hinckley. After a brief conversation, you lie comfortably on the treatment couch — fully clothed throughout, supported with pillows and a blanket if you wish.

Jeni works gently and quietly, lightly holding each of the 32 points on your head in sequence — sometimes two points simultaneously, sometimes moving through the sequence in an intuitive order. There is no pressure, no manipulation, no discomfort. You are simply invited to receive.

Most people begin to relax within the first few minutes. Many drift into a deeply meditative state — not quite asleep, but somewhere beyond ordinary waking consciousness. The mind quietens. The body settles. There is sometimes a sensation of warmth, tingling or a gentle pulsing beneath the hands. Sometimes there is nothing noticeable at all — and yet people leave feeling markedly different from how they arrived.

Sessions last approximately 60 minutes. Jeni also offers a combined Access Bars® and Coaching session for clients who wish to explore specific areas of their life where they feel limited or stuck — using the conversation to identify what would be most valuable to address, then Running the Bars to support the energetic shift that the coaching opens up. This combined approach is particularly powerful for those working with patterns of self-sabotage, limiting beliefs or a sense of being unable to move forward despite understanding why.

What Access Bars® Can Help With

  • Chronic stress, anxiety and mental overwhelm
  • Sleep difficulties and insomnia
  • Burnout and nervous system exhaustion
  • Depression, low mood and emotional flatness
  • ADHD and difficulty with focus or mental clarity

  • Grief, loss and emotional heaviness
  • A general sense of feeling stuck or unable to create change

This makes it particularly suitable for those who find more active or verbally focused therapeutic approaches overwhelming, or who are at a stage in their healing journey where gentleness and restoration are what is most needed.

Access Bars® Works Beautifully Alongside

At Peace of Mind Health, Access Bars® combines naturally with Transformational Life Coaching, Reiki Energy Healing, Somatic Therapy, Theta Healing and Sound Healing — each approach supporting the others in creating the conditions the body, mind and energy system need to genuinely restore and expand.

Aftercare

Access Bars® sessions can produce significant neurological and energetic shifts. In the hours that follow, we recommend:

  • Drinking plenty of water throughout the rest of the day
  • Resting where possible and allowing the nervous system to integrate what has shifted
  • Avoiding alcohol and caffeine for the remainder of the day
  • Being gentle with yourself emotionally — insights, feelings or unexpected clarity may continue to arise
  • Noticing what feels different over the following days without forcing conclusions

Some clients experience a brief period of tiredness, vivid dreams or emotional surfacing in the 24 to 48 hours following a session — all signs of integration and rebalancing. If anything feels intense or you have questions, please do get in touch.

Please note: if you experience fainting, vomiting or diarrhoea following treatment, please seek medical advice.
