Beautifully Broken
A reflection on wounds and the beauty born from pain.
Old scars of life
harden your skin,
a masked face
fooling none.
We each pierce
your delicate membrane
in different ways.
Wounds exposed,
hungry souls
sink their teeth
and feast
upon what is beautifully broken.
Yet something watches over you,
fragile beauty,
willing you gently onward
from the place
where your inner child bled,
her innocence
long spent.
Until the trembling fear
begins to soften,
and love wraps itself
around tender wounds.
And when your light returns,
there grows,
from that which taints you –
the radiant pearl.
