Sound Healing Hinckley
Sound Healing and Sound Bath at Peace of Mind Health, Hinckley

Sound is one of the oldest healing tools in human history. Across every culture, in every era, people have used rhythm, resonance and vibration to shift states of consciousness, ease pain, restore calm and reconnect with something deeper than thought. What ancient traditions understood intuitively, modern neuroscience is now confirming with measurable precision: sound reaches the body and brain in ways that almost nothing else does — bypassing the analytical mind entirely and working directly at the level of the nervous system, the cells and the biofield.
At Peace of Mind Health in Hinckley, sound healing is offered as a deeply immersive, therapeutic and restorative experience — not background music, but intentional, intuitive, instrument-led healing that works with your body’s own vibrational intelligence to bring it back into balance.
The Science of Sound — What Is Actually Happening
Everything in existence vibrates. The atoms that make up the human body are in constant motion, each oscillating at its own frequency. When the body is healthy and balanced, these frequencies exist in a kind of natural harmony. When stress, trauma, illness or emotional holding disrupts that harmony — when certain frequencies become depleted, stagnant or chaotic — the body’s capacity for self-regulation and self-healing is compromised. Sound healing works by introducing coherent, harmonious frequencies that invite the body’s own systems back into resonance.
This is not metaphor. The mechanism is increasingly well understood, and the research is compelling.
Brainwave entrainment is one of the primary pathways through which sound healing works. The brain naturally synchronises its electrical activity — its brainwaves — with powerful, rhythmic external stimuli. This phenomenon, known as neural entrainment, means that therapeutic sound can literally guide the brain from its ordinary waking state — characterised by high-frequency beta waves associated with stress, analytical thinking and alertness — into slower, more restorative states. Alpha waves bring relaxed focus and creative openness. Theta waves — the state between waking and sleep — are associated with deep healing, emotional processing, intuitive insight and the integration of experience. Delta waves bring profound restorative rest.
EEG research has confirmed that exposure to Tibetan singing bowls, tuning forks and other therapeutic instruments can measurably increase theta and delta wave activity while reducing beta wave dominance — achieving in minutes what might take years of meditation practice to reliably access.
A 2025 systematic review published in Healthcare journal, examining the effects of Tibetan Singing Bowl interventions on adults, found significant reductions in anxiety and depressive symptoms, improvements in heart rate variability, and measurable modulation of brainwave activity — including reductions in beta waves and enhancements in theta waves, facilitating deep relaxation and nervous system restoration. A 2025 meta-analysis reviewing 51 clinical studies found that therapeutic sound interventions produced significant reductions in anxiety across diverse patient populations including those with psychiatric and medical conditions. A 2017 study published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine found that sound bath meditation significantly reduced tension, anger, fatigue and depression in participants, with the greatest effects experienced by those new to sound healing.
Sound, the Vagus Nerve and Nervous System Healing
The vagus nerve — the body’s longest cranial nerve, running from the brainstem through the neck, heart, lungs and abdomen — is the primary highway of the parasympathetic nervous system. When vagal tone is healthy, the body moves fluidly between states of activation and rest. When vagal tone is poor — as it often is in people living with chronic stress, trauma, anxiety or long-term illness — the nervous system becomes locked in patterns of hyperactivation or shutdown, and the body’s capacity for genuine healing is significantly impaired.
Sound — particularly low-frequency vibration and tonal resonance — directly stimulates the vagus nerve. The physical vibration of instruments like gongs, Tibetan bowls and tuning forks is transmitted through the body as well as through the air, creating a full-body vibrational experience that reaches the vagus nerve through multiple pathways simultaneously. Research confirms that this vagal stimulation activates the parasympathetic nervous system, shifting the body from fight-or-flight into its rest-and-restore state — lowering heart rate, reducing blood pressure, decreasing cortisol, easing digestion and creating the physiological conditions in which deep healing becomes possible.
For people who feel chronically wired, exhausted, or unable to truly switch off — and for those whose nervous systems have been dysregulated by stress or trauma — this vagal activation through sound can be profoundly significant. Many clients describe it as the most deeply relaxed they have felt in years, sometimes ever.
The Instruments — and What Each One Does
Each instrument used in sound healing at Peace of Mind Health carries its own specific frequency and therapeutic character. Sessions are created intuitively, using the instruments that feel most relevant to what you need on that particular day.
Tibetan Singing Bowls — hand-hammered metal bowls that produce rich, complex overtones when played. Their layered frequencies promote deep relaxation, reduce anxiety, and have been shown in multiple studies to improve heart rate variability and shift brainwaves into theta and delta states. When placed on or near the body, their vibration is felt physically — a gentle, penetrating resonance that reaches deep into the tissues.
Crystal Singing Bowls — made from pure quartz crystal, these bowls produce a pure, sustained tone of exceptional clarity. Each bowl is tuned to a specific frequency corresponding to the body’s energy centres, or chakras, offering a precise and penetrating form of vibrational medicine that supports energetic clearing and alignment.
Tuning Forks — precision instruments producing specific, measured frequencies that can be applied directly to the body or held in the energy field. Tuning forks work with the body’s biofield and acupressure points, delivering targeted vibrational input to specific areas of the body and nervous system. They are particularly effective for pain relief, cellular healing and nervous system regulation.
Drums — the rhythmic pulse of the drum has been used in healing traditions across every culture for thousands of years. Shamanic drumming, in particular, induces theta brainwave states with reliable consistency — facilitating deep trance, emotional release, and access to the body’s own healing intelligence. It is grounding, primal and powerfully effective for those who feel disconnected from their body or from the present moment.
Medicine Chimes and Koshi Chimes — producing gentle, cascading tones that create a sense of lightness and spaciousness. Chimes are particularly effective for clearing energetic density, easing anxiety, and creating the feeling of being gently washed clean.
Vocal Toning — the human voice is one of the most powerful and personal of all healing instruments. Toning — the sustained production of specific vowel sounds and frequencies — creates an immediate vibrational response in the body and has been used since ancient times to restore energetic coherence. When woven into a sound healing session, vocal toning adds a deeply human, resonant dimension to the work.
Sound Healing and Pain

Research consistently demonstrates that therapeutic sound reduces pain perception — and the mechanism is now well understood. Sound healing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which reduces the nervous system’s amplification of pain signals. It promotes the release of endorphins — the body’s natural painkillers — and encourages the production of serotonin, which both modulates pain and regulates mood. It reduces the cortisol and adrenaline that keep the body’s pain response heightened. And through brainwave entrainment, it shifts the brain into states where pain is processed very differently from how it is experienced in an anxious, hyper-alert beta state.
For those living with chronic pain — fibromyalgia, arthritis, migraines, back pain, or pain linked to illness or injury — sound healing offers a non-invasive, deeply supportive complement to whatever other approaches are being used. Many clients report significant reductions in pain during and following sessions, often persisting for days afterwards.
What a Session Involves
You arrive and are welcomed into a calm, beautifully prepared treatment space in Hinckley. After a brief conversation about what you are experiencing and what you are hoping for, you lie comfortably on the treatment couch — fully clothed, supported with pillows and a blanket if you wish. Nothing is required of you except to receive.
Jeni works intuitively — choosing and combining instruments in response to what she senses in your energy field and what the session calls for. Instruments may be placed on or near the body, sounded in the space around you, or used to create immersive waves of layered sound. The session builds and ebbs in a natural rhythm — moving between stillness and resonance, between deep quiet and fuller sound.
Most clients enter a deeply meditative or trance-like state within minutes. Many describe vivid inner experiences — colours, sensations, emotions, images — as the sound moves through the body and the nervous system releases what it has been holding. Some fall into a deep, dreamlike rest. All of these responses are welcome and appropriate. The sound does the work — you simply receive.
Sessions may incorporate crystal healing, Reiki energy healing or chakra balancing where this feels supportive, creating a layered, multi-dimensional healing experience.

Sound Healing Works Beautifully Alongside
At Peace of Mind Health, sound healing often forms part of a broader healing journey. It combines naturally with Reiki Energy Healing, Chakra Balancing, Somatic Therapy, Clinical Reflexology and Shamanic Healing — each approach supporting and deepening the others.
Aftercare
Sound healing can produce significant shifts in the body, the nervous system and the energy field. In the hours and days following a session, we recommend:
- Drinking plenty of water — the body works actively during sound healing and needs good hydration to support integration
- Resting where possible and being gentle with yourself physically and emotionally
- Avoiding alcohol and caffeine for the remainder of the day
- Spending time in nature or stillness if that feels supportive
- Allowing any emotional shifts, vivid dreams or physical sensations to arise and pass without resistance
Some clients experience a brief healing response in the 24 to 48 hours following a session — heightened emotion, vivid dreaming, increased energy, or a temporary intensification of physical sensations before they ease. This is entirely normal and is the body integrating and rebalancing. If anything feels intense or concerns you, please do get in touch.
