The Jellyfish

The jellyfish is the entire ocean—
a living breath within each wave.
He ebbs, he flows—
waves dissolving into soft-creased ripples,
featherlight kisses that meet the shore.

The intimacy of the cosmos rests there—
in every drop of water, in every grain of sand.
No part of this is not already of Earth.

All worlds exist within the damp, dark soil.
The Earth rests at the foot of the tree,
open to receive the whispering wisdom of ley lines,
of ancient veins holding secrets—of ancestors,
and of all yet to be born.

Her children are already here:
flowers that will bear fruit,
nuts that will grow strong.

I wonder—as the tiny seed grows,
does it know it is already larger
than all the forests combined?
That the Earth beneath it
is every grain of sand?
That the waves lapping at its edge
are the echo of infinite seas?

I wonder— as the seed reaches toward the light,
does it know the jellyfish as its brother?
And also, as its mother?
