The Sacred Mirror

A reflection on nature, illusion, and remembering our place within the world.

That which is sweet song to my ear
is a whole language written for the sky.

That which appears still upon dappled water
holds entire worlds beneath its deep currents.

Beneath moss and turf,
armies move tirelessly,
fetching and carrying through hidden kingdoms
stretching across vast unseen domains.

Earth, water, and sky
take only what they need,
so their young may grow and thrive.

They do not turn upon their own kind.
Unlike us, they are not blinded
by fool’s gold,
the illusion that separates and destroys.

What superior race do we imagine ourselves to be
when we stare into the mirror each day?

And when we pray,
who is it we truly seek?

A figure who resembles me?

So narcissistic are we,
we can only imagine God in the shape of human.

Yet those who worship only themselves
shall never enter the sacred garden,
never dissolve into the dance of bliss.

Not until we truly see.
Is it a version of me? Or merely a perversion of me?

Always hidden in plain sight,
the endless mandala turns before my eyes.

And I awaken.

I kneel and weep before the sacred red deer,
bow to the branches
as they bow softly back to me.

I delight in the play of the wind,
teasing, caressing, awakening me
to the living breath of all things.
