Hi Dear Ones,
Welcome back to our blog.
Certainty in Uncertain Times
It is certain—whatever our beliefs may be—that deep down, we hold an innate sense that this life is not all there is.
Even the most rational atheist, the most skeptical agnostic, finds themselves whispering “please help me” to some unseen force during moments of desperation.
And when those we love are suffering, we plead with invisible energies to spare them, to ease their pain.
Is it true that Jimmy Savile died with his fingers crossed?
We look at a man whose unchecked desires caused immense harm to innocent children and their families.
Yet outwardly, he was celebrated—a figure who raised millions for charity and was admired in public life before his true nature came to light.
Still, no amount of external “good” can mask the internal causes we create.
His future path is not measured by applause or donations, but by the truth of his actions and the suffering he caused.
It is almost certain his soul will wander the depths of suffering for countless eons—not out of vengeance, but because cause and effect cannot be bought.
Trying to buy merit while refusing to take responsibility is like offering counterfeit coins for a rare red diamond.
It doesn’t work.
Without true ownership of the harm we cause—to others and to the world—we cannot erase the karmic imprint.
It is far more complex than a simple trade-off. Reducing it to that is a kind of spiritual bypassing.
When our mind is functioning clearly, we do know the difference between what is right, pure, and true—and what is not.
This knowing is not about religious rules or cultural norms; it’s something fundamental, something that whispers within us.
(Otherwise, why would we ever feel the need to cross our fingers?)
Different societies may have different rules, but rules can be manipulated.
Until we truly see this, we will continue to struggle—not only in this life, but beyond.
Take, for example, a wealthy businessman in a foreign land.
He may justify supporting a young girl in return for sex by believing he’s helping her family survive.
She, lacking his resources, may feel she has no other choice.
But if he truly wanted to help, he could do so without trading her dignity.
Would he want his own granddaughter “looked after” in such a way?
We know the answer.
We do know what is right, fair, and compassionate.
We all have opportunities to contribute meaningfully in this life.
But if we act from negative delusions or bypass our inner compass, our contribution is hollow.
Without integrity, life becomes meaningless and self-serving.
Still, it’s true—our inner demons can be loud, wild, and powerful.
But if we dare to face them or ask for help, redemption becomes possible.
Equanimity is a potent ally in this.
I know someone who speaks one way to certain people, and another way to others—depending on what they think they can “get away with.”
This is a subtle, yet telling measure of integrity.
We should imagine those we most honour and respect standing beside us in every action, thought, and choice.
If we wouldn’t speak or act in a certain way in their presence, then we shouldn’t in anyone’s.
That is a simple but profound compass.
