The Songs of the Elements
language of elements , the ways they shape the soul.
Air is filled with fast and lively melody.
a wave carried by unseen hands until it finds me,
wrapping itself around my body
like a cocoon of endless concentric motion
until at last it lands and I become its chosen place of arrival.
Water holds a slower sonic pulse.
Waves lap back and forth in ancient vibration,
a stealth current moving quietly beneath the surface.
Only now and then
does it reveal the fullness of its power,
as the currents twist themselves
into spirals deep enough to pull me under.
I could disappear there,
never to be found again,
merging softly into the silence of the ocean floor.
Earth
When I sit in stillness with my naked feet pressed against the soil,
I hear her humming.
The frequency I feel within myself
becomes amplified through her body.
An electric current. She carries it to .
And as I place my feet upon her belly full of life,
I remember I have always been held by her.
Fire
Your song has always frightened me. You know this about me,
For I am air , fast, flowing, full of melody.
And with Earth
I speak the same language
the tongue of sages and healers, and remembering.
I know my place within Water.
The shapeshifter in me
dives deep to the ocean floor
and listens patiently to its wisdom.
But you, Fire…
You are unpredictable.
In my own fiery expression
I have burned, and been burned.
So often I have turned my back upon you,
refusing your dance.
Yet over many moons
I have begun to feel your warmth differently.
I have watched with fearful awe the way you teach
through transformation ,through surrender.
We still have far to travel together,
but now I learn whilst decisive
you are also patient and kind .
One day
I will dance beside you fully
within your ever moving flames.
