The Simplicity of Life
A reflection on the beauty hidden in ordinary moments.
Some textures are almost impossible to describe,
the subtle shape of life
as it weaves itself into our unique experience,
arriving to delight, to nourish,
or simply to pass by.
And yet,I shall try…….
The sound of silence,
broken only by the gentle breeze
caressing the knotted arms of ancient trees,
until fresh chartreuse leaves begin to tremble
in their barely concealed delight.
Dappled water shimmers before me,
its ripples drawing my gaze
toward a goose and her cargo of soft fluff,
trundling gently past,
unaware that my stillness rests beside them.
The warmth of the sun
plays hide and seek with passing clouds,
hung so low
I feel I could reach upward with a stick
and wrap candy floss softness around it.
The soft fur wrapped around me
holds close against the coolness of spring,
while fingers and toes remain bare
just to enjoy the contrast
of awakening air against living skin.
I watch steam curl and rise
before vanishing into nothingness,
as the cocoa filled mug within my hands
warms both heart and body alike.
Then my beloved guide arrives.
Majestic in feathers of black, white, and blue,
he struts proudly before me,
revealing flashes of petroleum rainbow
hidden within the dark shimmer of wings.
And suddenly, I am full of this moment.
So deeply glad to be alive.
For within the simplicity of life
I remember something sacred,
This world does not exist apart from me.
It arises through me, within me,
beside me.
And because of that,
nothing can truly take it away.
