Endlessly
A reflection on the inner journey we carry through life.
I am so tired….
not
from the steep and treacherous path,
for I surrendered
long ago
to searing pain,
as a merciless fox
tears tendons
from the bones of its prey.
Bare bleeding feet,
while thorned bushes
gnaw at skin,
each step
a searing fire ant bite.
Nor from the heavy weight
that seemed
to merge with me…
we became one
countless moons ago.
That too,
with reverence,
can be allowed.
Yet how can I forget
what I cannot remember,
nor forgive
what was long ago forgotten?
The weariness
is a deep,
unshakable knowing
that the game
is without end.
