Clinical Reflexology for Hormonal Imbalances

Reflexology is a gentle yet powerful treatment which can greatly help your body to promote its own natural healing responses and reduce the symptoms of a variety of illnesses and disorders. It is very useful for balancing the hormonal system for fertility however can also  be particularly effective for treating many other hormonal imbalances including weight regulation, painful periods, thyroid function, weakened immunity, erectile dysfunction etc.

Why is this so?
Causes of Hormonal Imbalance can vary , two of the most frequent causes of hormonal imbalance are stress and nutritional deficiencies and of these two things stress is probably the most common trigger.

When we experience stress, our bodies release high levels of the cortisol hormone. This is part of our natural “fight or flight” response to danger. Cortisol raises our heart rate, dilates the bronchial tubes and releases fat for use as fuel in response to a crisis. The problem is that in our modern society, stress can become chronic and elevated cortisol levels are very common.

Some of the negative effects of this include:

Infertility.

PMS.

Weight gain.

High blood pressure.

A weak immune system.

Prostate / erectile problems in men.
Reflexology can work in a vast number of ways to correct hormonal imbalances. It works directly on reducing stress by soothing the adrenals to release hormones which relax and switch off and therefore in correct cortisol levels. In addition to this it will help you strengthening the immune function whilst improving circulation, balancing the endocrine system. removing toxins etc.All of these factors are connected to the restoration of hormonal balance.

A clinical Reflexologist will have a deep understanding of the nerve endings and how they are linked to the organs and systems within the body and also the importance of working on he Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) energy meridian system as important meridians are located in the feet and these are also directly connected to glands and organs within the body. It is important to understand the TCM aspect and be aware of whether energy needs to be added or taken away as this could prove to be a key aspect of the healing of the client.

Clinical trials have been conducted (CITED) In a study at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) these trials discovered that 62% of women who received weekly reflexology treatments experienced relief over time from premenstrual syndrome symptoms.
